TO ALL ASSIGNMENT EDITORS/SPORTS EDITORS
For Immediate Release
When the Toronto Marlies take to the ice on Wednesday, February 22nd, they will be battling more than just the Syracuse Crunch (Tampa Bay Lightning Affiliate); they will be assisting in the fight against child poverty as well. The February 22 event features a special 11:00 a.m. start time to allow participation from the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) which will be sending nearly 7,000 enthusiastic young fans from 85 different schools to the game. TDSB/TFSS 8th annual Day at the Marlies, a joint effort between the Toronto Foundation for Student Success (TFSS) and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, will raise nearly $20,000 in support of student programs at Toronto schools in need.
In addition to creating one of the more boisterous cheering sections at any Toronto venue, TDSB students will participate in pre-game ceremonies and students from Humbercrest PS will perform the Canadian and American national anthems.
TDSB/TFSS Day at the Marlies is just one of many initiatives of the TFSS, the independent charity of the TDSB.
