School Opportunity Fund

School Opportunity Fund

This year, we are thrilled to launch the School Opportunity Fund, to give more enriching opportunities to more students. This new program will provide grants of up to $5,000 to schools in need, for special projects or initiatives that will enhance learning, resources, and supports for students. The School Opportunity Fund will provide schools with funds they never had access to before, giving them a much-needed boost to help their children thrive.

Each school day, children learn so much, in so many different ways. Beyond their regular classroom learning, students thrive by participating in everything from sports, clubs, and arts, to nutrition programs. Schools rely on their communities for support. However, some communities are less able to raise funds than others, yet these are the ones that need support the most: this is what the School Opportunity Fund is for.

How it Works

Schools may submit multiple applications totaling up to $5,000 annually. Some requests that exceed $5,000 may also be considered. Eligible opportunities could include:

·         Computers/tablets
·         Library resources
·         Clothing
·         Post secondary application fees
·         Refrigerators, freezers, and other equipment
·         Food
·         Other school needs

How to Apply

During this initial pilot phase of the program, only Toronto District School Board (TDSB) schools that fall between 1-40 on the elementary school Learning Opportunity Index (LOI), or between 1-10 on the secondary school LOI, are eligible to apply for the School Opportunity Fund.
