School Opportunity Fund – as supported by the Marissa & Moez Kassam Foundation

We are thrilled to offer the School Opportunity Fund for a second year, to provide more opportunities to more students in underserved communities. This program provides grants of up to $5,000 to schools in need for special projects or initiatives that enhance supports for students. For the 2023-2024 school year, the School Opportunity Fund will focus on helping schools bolster their nutrition programming through items like food and kitchen equipment as well as supporting the needs of newcomer students and providing other resources to vulnerable children. The School Opportunity Fund gives a much-needed boost that helps students thrive.

Schools rely on their communities for support. However, some communities are less able to raise funds than others, yet these are the ones that need support the most: this is what the School Opportunity Fund is for.

How it Works

Schools may submit multiple applications totaling up to $5,000 annually. Some requests that exceed $5,000 may also be considered. Eligible opportunities could include:

  • Food
  • School supplies for children
  • Refrigerators, freezers and other equipment
  • Other student needs

Please note that STEM related requests are not eligible for funding at this time.

How to Apply

During this phase of the program, only Toronto District School Board (TDSB) schools that fall between 1-100 on the elementary school Learning Opportunity Index (LOI), or between 1-30 on the secondary school LOI, are eligible to apply for the School Opportunity Fund.

All School Opportunity Fund applications will be reviewed by the Toronto Foundation for Student Success (TFSS), together with our donor who will make all final decisions and approvals.
