Toronto, ON – On Thursday, the team at Toronto Foundation for Student Success (TFSS) held an online meeting to speak to the impact of an eighteen-month, $109,100 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). This grant, awarded in the spring of 2023, has been used to develop a robust, long-lasting volunteer program to attract, retain, and support volunteers for TFSS programs supporting children in underserved communities across Toronto.
The Resilient Communities Fund grant program was developed in 2020 to help non-profit groups and small communities to rebuild from the impacts generated by the pandemic. This grant enabled the group to build a volunteer management system and standardize its volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and retention practices. The volunteer program creates engagement opportunities for local community members as support for its programs.
“Volunteers are the backbone of organizations,” said Catherine Parsonage, CEO of TFSS. “That’s why we were thankful for this transformational $109,100 grant from the Ontario government that lets us unleash the energy and commitment of volunteers to increase the capacity of our programs for children in need across our city. This grant helps TFSS ensure volunteers are fully supported and well-trained to assist in providing much-needed services for children and youth in Toronto.”
TFSS helps students in need. It addresses issues of poverty, hunger and poor nutrition, and their effects on education. The Toronto Foundation for Student Success is an independent, registered charitable organization dedicated to supporting children across Toronto, and helping remove barriers to their education. This funding will help ensure that it remains at the heart of the community for decades to come.”
