Thank You for supporting feed tomorrow week 2017!

A great big “thank you” to all who supported the 13th annual feed tomorrow week – we couldn’t do it without you.
With the support of a declaration from Toronto City Council and hundreds of volunteers, including students, politicians, donors and public figures, the week of events was a resounding success as we united communities across Toronto in a common cause: to raise awareness about child hunger right here in our city, raise money for the urgent needs of our students and to help build a better tomorrow for Toronto's vulnerable children.

Here’s a recap of this year’s events:

Oct 16th - ACE Bakery Sandwich Snackdown

The week kicked off with the ACE Bakery Sandwich Snackdown. ACE Bakery delivered 6-foot baguettes to all 18 beyond 3:30 after-school program sites where students went to work with bakery staff preparing amazing sandwiches. As you can see from the photographs below, the creations were pretty special. Although it seemed a shame to mess with the final products, hunger eventually took over and the giant snacks were enjoyed by all! This is the fifth year that ACE Bakery staff gave generously of their time and effort to support us and every year we are astounded by their commitment to the students at beyond 3:30. Thank you ACE Bakery staff – you rock!

Oct 17th and 19th - Breakfast for Breakfast

Secondary school students came together to support their peers across the TDSB by preparing and selling breakfasts in their schools. Students gained volunteer hours and proceeds will go towards supporting Student Nutrition Programs. At Northern Secondary School, Whole Foods Market “stepped up to the plate” by generously donating food for this event.

Oct 18th - VIP Nutrition Program Bus Tour

VIPs, passionate about food and child nutrition, traveled “student style” on a bona fide school bus, on a beautiful day to Winchester JSPS and Jesse Ketchum JSPS to see Student Nutrition Programs in action. At Winchester JSPS the children’s smiles lit-up the room as they enjoyed talking about their breakfast program and escorted the VIPs to the different classrooms with bins of food.

The visit ended with a $620,000 cheque presentation to the TFSS from the Breakfast Club of Canada. Breakfast Club of Canada works tirelessly to nourish children right across Canada and here in Toronto we are extremely grateful for their generous support.

The second stop on the tour was a visit to Jesse Ketchum JSPS’s nutrition program where staff were passionate about their commitment to child nutrition and visitors were able to see the wonderful program in action.

The last stop was the St. Lawrence Market where we were treated to some wonderful food, generously provided by the St. Lawrence Market Merchants. A great end to a great day!

Oct 20th - Junior Chef's Culinary Cook Off

Three teams of beyond 3:30 after-school program students who made it through to the final stage, closed out feed tomorrow week by competing in a culinary challenge at President’s Choice Cooking School located at the Loblaws® store at Maple Leaf Gardens*. This gave these Junior Chefs the opportunity to compete in a cooking competition and be judged by a panel of esteemed chefs and foodies. Food was tasted, questions were asked and D A Morrison Middle School was named the winner for a second year in a row! Each of the teams won prizes and the first place team won lunch with Chef Brad Long and a tour of Café Belong.

Once again we thank all our donors, supporters and volunteers for making feed tomorrow week a great success. We simply couldn’t do it without you.
